Day #6: "Where We're Going We Don't Need Roads" by The Stereophones.

I found this song by accident. It was a happy accident.

Day #5: "Control" by Pause.

This song speaks plaintively from the bomb site of a man's mind.

Day #4: "Bend and Break" by Keane.

Desperate yet full of humanity. This YouTube rendering has its own interesting poignancy.

Here's the story the publisher posted with his video:-

'Bend and break' music video for "hopes and fears video competition".
A Jackf Production

The video was originally filmed in London (August '99) and never edited.
This in an extract from the original tape simply playing slowly.

August 7th, 1999. I was sitting on a sidewalk in Covent Garden with my Sony Handycam (Hi8), it was my last hours in London, I was waiting for the evening to reach Stansted airport and go back home in Italy; I felt anxious and out of place.
In that moment I thought that filming so many different women with different mood (walking, running, smiling, thinking over, wondering, annoying, arguing) was surely a way to amuse myself.
Tim Rice-Oxley said about the song that "people often say that with proper depression, things can seem unbearably awful as your thoughts run around each other in the dark of the night but when the sun rises you can get more perspective and see things in a more hopeful way".

When I was back in my country I felt better and when I saw the video I thought that I never filmed that.

Ten years later I have some questions more:

Who were those girls?
Where are they now?

When you, when you forget your name
When old faces all look the same
Meet me in the morning when you wake up
Meet me in the morning then you'll wake up
If only I don't bend and break
I'll meet you on the other side
I'll meet you in the light
If only I don't suffocate
I'll meet you in the morning when you wake

Bitter and hardened heart
Aching waiting for life to start
Meet me in the morning when you wake up
Meet me in the morning then you'll wake up

If only I don't bend and break
I'll meet you on the other side
I'll meet you in the light
If only I don't suffocate
I'll meet you in the morning when you wake

If only I don't bend and break
I'll meet you on the other side
I'll meet you in the light
If only I don't suffocate
I'll meet you in the morning when you wake

I'll meet you on the other side
I'll meet you in the light
If only I don't suffocate
I'll meet you in the morning when you wake

Day #3: "Up the Wolves" by the Mountain Goats.

This song featured on the end credits of a terrific episode of The Walking Dead, after which the band must have experienced a spike in interest. I would have been one of the spikers.

Day #2: "Pounding" by Doves.

An energising yet wistful song. Absorbing and musically lyrical.
