Musical Genius

Just discovered some more genius.

The first song below featured at the end of an episode of The Walking Dead just aired this week. I was really smitten by the song and went searching for it on the interwebs - and of course ended up at YouTube, home of everything audio-visual and which must be the video version of Tumblr.

Lyrics and Meaning

Here's a link to a page with the lyrics and some intelligent comments.
Up the Wolves - lyrics

Another song

The second song, below, is simply another piece of theirs that I discovered as I went hunting. And it is insanely, preciously good.

Live work and article

And here's some live work and an article, which you may enjoy:-

Matthew 25:21

They'd hooked you up to a fentanyl drip
To mitigate the pain a little bit
I flew in from Pennsylvania
When I heard the hour was coming fast

And I docked in Santa Barbara
Tried to brace myself
But you can't brace yourself
When the time comes you just have to roll with the blast

And I'm an eighteen wheeler headed down the interstate
And my brakes are going to give and I won't know until it's too late
Tires screaming when I lose control
Try not to hurt too many people when I roll

Find the harbor freeway and head south
Real tired, head kind of light
I found Telegraph Road, I'd only seen the name on envelopes
Found the parking lot and turned right

I felt all the details carving out space in my head
Tropicana's on the walkway, neon red
Between the pain and the pills trying to hold it at bay
Stands a traveler going somewhere far away

And I am an airplane tumbling wing over wing
Tried to listen to my instruments, they don't say anything
People screaming when the engines quit
I hope we're all in crash position when we hit

And then came to your bedside
And as it turns out, I'm not ready
And as though you were speaking through a thick haze
You said hello to me

We all stood there around you
Happy to hear you speak
The last of something bright burning, still burning
Beyond the cancer and the chemotherapy

And you were a presence full of light upon this earth
And I am a witness to your life and to its worth
It's three days later when I get the call
And there's nobody around to break my fall

Up the Wolves

There's bound to be a ghost
At the back of your closet
No matter where you live
There'll always be a few things
Maybe several things
That you're gonna find really difficult to forgive

There's gonna come a day
When you'll feel better
You'll rise up free and easy on that day
And float from branch to branch
Lighter than the air
Just when that day is coming
Who can say
Who can say

Our mother has been absent
Ever since we founded Rome
But there's gonna be a party
When the wolf comes home

We're gonna commandeer
The local airwaves
To tell the neighbors what's been going on
And they will shake their heads
And wag their bony fingers
In all the wrong directions
And by daybreak we'll be gone

I'm gonna get myself in fighting trim
Scope out every angle
Of unfair advantage
I'm gonna bribe the officials
I'm gonna kill all the judges
It's gonna take you people years
To recover from all of the damage

Our mother has been absent
Ever since we founded Rome
But there's gonna be a party
When the wolf comes home

Guilty Pleasure time.

Who remembers Spain's entry in the Eurovision Song Contest of 2012? I do.

I was blown away by the vocal power of Pastora Soler. Apparently she is quite famous in Spain. Why she is not more famous further afield, I do not know.

Here she is, back on that fateful day when a really rather rubbish song and hatstand performance stole the evening.

As ever, enjoy:-

For completeness' sake, here is the official video for the studio version of the song:-

Sometimes you just have to take a moment.

This is, in my humble opinion, a beautiful video setting for John Mayer's song, "Say what you need to say".
